VA Loan Home Occupancy Period: How Long Can You Stay

You want to know the occupancy limit. Some people want to buy a house with a VA loan. They say, how long do I have to stay in it?

How long do I have to occupy this property to fulfill the terms that I signed with the deed and the note? when I get my VA loan? Well, the answer is when you when you move in, I give us a period. In most cases, the minimum required is 12 months. That means once you buy that property, you have to stay there for that period of time as your primary residence.

So that means you can’t buy another property, those other kinds of things. However, there are certain circumstances where exceptions could be made. For example, if you receive military orders, For deployment, you may be allowed to remain absent from the property for an extended period of time. Same applies if you experience a change in your marital status or circumstances beyond your merit, beyond your control.

Keep in mind though, if you’re thinking about purchasing the home solely as an investment property, the VA loan does not allow that and it might not be the right fit for you. The purpose of VA loan is to lower the barrier of entry for people, for eligible veterans and service members to obtain housing with minimal down payment and a good interest rates.
